Laboratory on revealing, scanning, expanted audio-visible making of environments, objects and territories

conceived and curated by Paidia Institute, Cologne

November 4 – 11, 2012

hosted and produced by Noarte, San Sperate, Sardinia

As an association of artists researchers focussed on the intereactions between virtual and material spaces and the possibility of action and creativity “in between” of them, Paidia Institute proposes a new laboratory with a strong vocation for field work. The choosen core location is a community in Southern Sardinia with an established tradition on artists residency and artistic intervention: a perfect (both logistic and cultural) pre-condition in order to produce a laboratory to be extended over a larger territory: the territory –the objects of architecture, pieces of landscapes and spatial facts–has to be seen as the experimental laboratory.

Paidia Laboratory: Feedback at transmediale 2012

The cycle Paidia Laboratory: feedback examines computer games as closed feedback systems. In an ongoing series of artistic experiments the feedback behaviour of games is studied, by coupling their in- and output through modifications of hard- and software. The focus lies not on the usability of games, but rather on an archeology of interaction – determining the limits and boundaries of games in order to understand the media specific characteristics of computer games.

augmented reality residency, 2008

In the summer of 2008 I did an artist in residency at V2_lab about augmented reality.

Two years ago V2_lab started developing the first version of an augmented reality system in collaboration with the artist Marnix de Nijs (NL). That resulted in the first public user test of a project called Exercise in Immersion 4 during the Dutch Electronic Art Festival 2007 (DEAF07).

After this presentation they went on refining the system and invited three artists-in-residence. They where chosen to explore various sub topics: Marnix de Nijs (NL) will continue his Exercise in Immersion 4 project, Boris Debackere (BE) researches spatial sound, and my focus was on 3D and visual aspects of augmented reality. In the fall of 2008, a series of workshops will be given, open to (art) students, artists and other professionals who are interested in artistic use of augmented reality.
