Physical Computing Workshop

Workshop DVTG February 2007 (Groups)

Intention: Course participants learn to handle different input and output possibilities of the computer using Max/MSP and electronics. In the workshop the participants examine, in which way computers can communicate with each other in a creative way, without connecting them physically to a network. It is not about to find the best way for communication, but to find interesting an playful possibles how interaction can be accomplished.

Workshop task: Create an interesting chain response between the group computers. Every group must at least create one input and output plus an interesting processing of it, that in the end a chain response between all computers can be made.

As a source of inspiration the art work 'Lauf der Dinge' by Peter Fischli and David Weiss (CH 1987) is used. YouTube: The Way Things

...and the work of Rube Goldberg (1883 - 1970), who was probably the inspiration for Fischli and Weiss. http://www.rubegoldberg.com/

'Through his "INVENTIONS", Rube Goldberg discovered difficult ways to achieve easy results.'
