Cinekid festival Amsterdam

On saterday the 21st October ’06 the 20th edition of the Cinekid festival started. Cinekid is an annual Film, Television and New Media Festival for Children that is held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

This year the installation Reaction Machine is also part of the New Media programme. This time we encourage the children to create a ongoing story by listening carefully to the previous recording and try to continue the story. The recorded films can be viewed back online.

One of the highlight of the programme is Zachary Lieberman (US) installation drawn, it was already presented this year at ARS Electronica, where he won the award for Distinction Interactive Art. I saw it already there in Linz and still love to play with it like all the children here at cinekid.

Other cool interactive installations are…

Eddie Enter
by Daniel van Giel is the host of the new media exposition room, here every child can create here/his own profile s/he can create a foto, record a message. The profile is linked to the festival pas with a barcode, so that every child can create personal contant in workshops and most installations.

TouchMe by David Kousemaker and Tim Olden from Blen-did

‘TouchMe is an interactive installation for the public space. (…) Members of the public can create an image of themselves by pressing their body against a glass surface. The resulting picture will be stored by the installation to become part of the permanent exhibition.’

The created images can also be viewed back online.

Luma2solator by Pipslab

‘The Luma2solator is an installation, which enables the audience to make lightpaintings/grafittis, and to contribute them to the installation.
The audience is the artist, and becomes the subject. Fuck PIPS:lab, you’re the artist.’
